The minus voting is a good compromise I think. If an image offends then the option to give it a minus vote is there rather than call for it to be censored.

Also, I think that the number of community votes for an image relates to the likelihood that it is used elsewhere on the OMM website and other areas of the project. Perhaps Paul, Eamonn or another OMM member can confirm this.

Beware though, there are plenty of poor artists out there making a living out of being controversial. Negative publicity is still publicity after all smiley

I'm not sure about minus voting. I have found out that someone gave me a minus vote when I looked at my activity log and it turned out that I have received 14 votes but only have 12 on my profile. I don't know why and I have not received a comment from anyone saying that they didn't like my picture, and I don't really see how my picture could be offensive. I would like to know why this person gave me one. I agree that minus voting is a good way for censorship, but I think it would be better if you had to leave a reason why, to stop people doing it out of spite or by accident (as I hope is what happened to me).

Sarah Edwards.
I would have to agree with what you say to a point. But, I dont think someone would need to justify why they do not like something. nor leave a name for someone to look them up and ask them why. but i do agree with the fact it is annoying when someone comes by and leaves a -s on your picture when it is something that isn't offensive like a flower. But also diffrent kinds of people like diffrent things. So they have every right to leave that -s on there. If truely you have something people think it's great then the +s will out weigh the -s by far. So i really dont think that anyone should lose sleep over the -s.smiley

Don't worry, Sarah.
I think that when the voting system was launched there was a bug or glitch in the first day or so. I think that all votes were reset to 0, but the activity page still recorded any votes gained before the reset. I noticed the same with my profile too - I have a missing vote also.

So, it could just well be a web bug that ate your vote and not a meanie after all.

EDIT: ah, I have just seen the post about the bug. Thanks, Pip!

I agree, and I definitely don't expect everyone to like every picture. I'm really not good at drawing on the computer and my picture is awful compared to some of them here, and I understand that people may want to leave it or others -s, but what is the point unless you say why? I think if you are going to leave it, it should either be to help censorship or for constructive criticism. Saying you don't think something is good is no help unlessy ou tell them how to improve it, and leaving one because you don't like it but no explanation really can dent someone's confidence, even if they do have many other +s.
But... *Sarah thinks a little harder* if you don't like something then you just don't like it and it is hard to find a reason why... and it could be awkward if you had to say simply "I dont like it"...

About the minus voting, I'm a bit confused, is it about wether you like the picture or not, or wether you think it is appropiate? :S
