| If you get a tablet all you have to do is practice with it. Those people who say it's only good as the person using it, well yes, that is true, but the point is you need to get better. Of course it's hard at the beginning because you've never used it before. Definately a good investment though, at least IMO. |

| I've used a tablet once before. It was the coolest thing ever. My art teacher let me try his and it was just awsome. I think I'll get one... but probably not anytime soon. Maybe in a year or so. |

| I did mine almsot entirely upon my tablet, but mine was something like £30-40 on ebay, so no more than an average computer game in cost, but I must say, if you are coming from traditional to digital art like me (although I'm still mainly a traditional artist who also does digital) its probably easier, but if you are coming straight into digital its whatever you fidn easier. |

I USED A TRACKBALL. IT WASNT EASY AT FIRST BUT IN NATURE MOST
THINGS ARE JUST NOISE. RANDOM MESS. SO IN A WAY A NATURE SCENE I THINK MIGHT BE EASIER TO DRAW. BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT ACTUALLY TRYING TO DRAW SOMETHING. HMM...LIKE A CURVATURE OF AN EYELID OR A CHEEK IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. ANOTHER THING IS I ACTUALLY MADE IT MUCH MORE COMPLEX AND DETAILED BUT UNFORTUNATELY I THINK THERE IS A LIMITATION TO THE PROGRAM. SO UNFORTUNATELY I AM NOT ABLE TO CONTINUE TO ADD. AH WELL. IT IS STILL NOT TO BAD. I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO TAKE IT TO THE EXTREME THOUGH. MAYBE THEY WILL UPGRADE THE DRAWING COMPONENT. BUT I AM NOT COMPLAINING OR ANYTHING THIS PROJECT STILL TOTALLY RULES AND I WILL KEEP PROMOTING IT WHENEVER I CAN. I HAVE SOME NEW IDEAS AS MY LIST OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY IS RUNNING OUT. Tablets are not so good, people tend to compare them with pencils but it really depends, I have more control when drawing directly than sketching over a tablet and watch the computer. I used to draw and paint on the computer with my mouse for a year and actually my draws were better with the mouse than now with a tablet, unfortunately I lost some practise with the mouse since I only draw with pencils. For me the tablet is very useful for painting, I mean when you try to do a hyper-realistic animal fur-by-fur with the mouse you'll go crazy enough to run into a store and buy a tablet.  |

ok. Edwin and I bought a tablet tonight. We woke up Christmas morning with nothing under the tree but awful colds, so we went out tonight with our tissues and cough syrup and got a shared gift  Wacom intuos 4x6.
I plan to update my pic with it at some point, but it still feels uncomfortable to use. It is better suited for a drawing program, by the way. The web interface we're using for our OMM square can't support the input that an image program on your computer can. Rather - the pen lags and is jerky over your square. You need to go slow. Mine may just lag extra because my pic is so loaded up with updates, so I can't say for sure.
did a fair amt of homework first, though:
Don't risk getting a used one.
Wacom is the best out right now.
the Wacom Intuos has twice the level of pressure sensitivity as well as twice the resolution as the Wacom Graphire.
4x5 Graphire: $100
4x5 bluetooth Graphire: $130
6x8 Graphire: $200
4x6 Intuos: $230
6x8 Intuos: $330
by the way - the sizes go way higher
These prices I listed are on the high end. They are certainly cheaper on sites like Amazon.com

ok - I did the latest update - about half mouse, half tablet. The tablet let me color things in faster. If I was really determined to start a line at a very specific point, I needed the mouse. It was actually a pretty weird experience.
I'd probably save the tablet for the realm of illustrator, though. I can only do so much on this site, imho. |

I'm getting a tablet...eventually. I use them in my CG class at school, though. I've never been able to draw well with a mouse. My right hand just doesn't respond to drawing. T_T
Wacoms are decent tablets, though they're a bit expensive (though it's fairly priced, in my opinion). The pens are generally pressure sensitive (as long as you're working in a pressure-sensitive program) and you've got shortkeys on the tablet (like zooming/scrolling and such).

| I've been thinking about getting a tablet for a year or so. I'm mainly a traditional artist so using the mouse was a challenge at first. Now though, I'm really good with a mouse and wonder if I really need a tablet. I would like a tablet at some point if I got some practice with some first. |

Hmm... instead of a tablet I've been thinking I want one of those flat computer things my friend has... he just draws and types right on the screen! It's just a laptop that doesn't open.... @_@.
Of course it costs an insane amount of money. And I'm not getting a Christmas/Birthday present for another eight years with the camera I'm about to get! Yay! |

Oddly enough, the tablet was completely natural to me... took me about 5 minutes to get used to it. Still.. my skills are only decent.
The only problem is.. I can't draw with a mouse anymore. Sort of sad, really. |

| I'd save money for one but I would probably never use it. This is actually the first time I have really done a drawing on a computer and I dont really plan on doing any more. I likes me pencil and paper, lol. |

A tablet is great if you don't have access to other medias. For example, I don't own any paints or canvas or anything besides a black brush pen and a few markers. Thus, I use my tablet to color and paint, but I'm actually much more comfortable with traditional pen and ink stuff. Yeah.
I think part of what makes the adjustment weird is that suddenly you aren't looking at your hand--you're looking at the product. If you have good hand-eye coordination, it should be easier to adjust. Hence, why video game junkies like digital art. |

I got a tablet for Christmas, and find it a mixed blessing. It is much better than a mouse for me, as I use pencils most of the time, and thus it is more natural then a mouse.
I never had the whole problem about disconnect between drawing and looking at a screen, so one obstacle out of the way, but I still use vectors to do anything really major, not the tablet. Coloring is much easier, as is making good rough sketches, thoughI know ways of putting scanned lineart into usable layers though, so when beginning a piece I usually just do that. When I get better with the tablet that may change
