| Hi! I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere, but I couldn't find any info about it... I would like to suggest the ability to upload artwork for your piece, rather than draw directly onto the screen. This would be great for the artists, like myself, that draw/paint primarily by hand and are a little uncomfortable working digitally. Thanks for listening! ^_^ |

I'm not sure but I think that the web drawing tools are used to ensure that all contributions are original works by he artist. A file or image upload system may be open to abuse inasmuch as users would then be able to copy others work from elsewhere on the web, or even the OMM. This could provide legal hassles for the project.
But as I said, I'm not sure if this is the reason  |

well i reckon that reason makes a whole heap of sense. and i reckon it is fair for alot of people u no. its like some people may not have the tools to put their artwork here. and plus its just easier and simple for those who dont practice art at all to use and contribute really. |

| Although I do admit that I have images I prefer to this one, I think that the online tools are actually a really nice idea, it ensures that there is no plagiarism, but more importantly, its quite a fun little application I think, so even if you cant make a spectaular piece, you can make something without needing any artistic stuff, besides I think its more about reflecting the user rather than showing their artistic prowess, we've got deviantART and whatnot for that. |

From my point of view the drawing tool is essential.
1) It levels the playing field, giving everyone the same tool with which to contribute.
2) It ensures a unique contribution from each artists, eliminates copyright risks, the risk of offensive material (specifically photography)
3) It enables us to capture the drawing process - which couldn't be done with static images. This is essential, because a central theme of the project is that we're capturing a snapshot of who that person is - a moment in time when they drew the picture.

I'll have to agree with Paul on this one; the project just wouldn't seem as fun and unique if people could just upload any old artwork. The fact that this site not only uses it's own drawing tools but also a playback option makes this place a lot more exciting  |
