I know I listen to music a lot, and it makes up a huge part of my inspiration for the artwork that I do. So I got to wondering--what does everyone here listen to?
I like progressive rock, myself, but I'm just weird that way. Bands like Glass Hammer, Genesis, and Yes.
What about you guys? |

I listen to whatever happens to be on, I don't really have favorite music. And I don't really know what any music is. I just listen to it. I've been in a Beethoven mood lately and I listen to it a lot. But I've been listening to a lot of new stuff that I don't know the name of.
I listen to any genre of music that happens to be on. I have songs that I don't like, but I've never been able to write off a complete genre. |

WHEN I WORK IN THE SUMMER I USUALLY JUST LISTEN TO THE WATER. IF I DO PUT SOMETHING ON HOWEVER IT IS MOSTLY CLASSICAL.
IT DOESNT DISTURB ME IF IM IN THE ZONE.
BUT WHEN IT COMES TO MUSIC LISTENING IN GENERAL IM EXACTLY LIKE ALLISON.
I NEVER COULD REMEMBER ARISTS NAMES OR NAME SONGS BY
SPECIFIC ARTISTS AND WHAT EVER PEOPLE PUT ON IS OK WITH ME.

| Genesis...saw them in concert too many years ago. Apart from them Prince, Simply Red and Sting. Modern stuff Amy Winehouse, Eminem, Scissor sisters. Then there is Classical and Trad jazz. In fact most anything with decent lyrics or decent music but definitely not Heavy stuff. Although I have also seen Motorhead in concert...was deaf for hours after that! |

well, it depends on how I'm feeling. I DO enjoy soundscapes a lot (recordings of rain forests, waterfalls, thunderstorms, etc.) I also have a weakness for that crazy german rave.
I like anything as long as it has a good melody, isn't screamy, isn't country, isn't weird, and isn't rap. |

Heheh... Not much beats classical music. It's nice to turn up the radio and chill to a little Rachmaninov every once in a while. |

I listen to pretty much anything that isn't made for the sole purpose of selling records and making money. I get annoyed when really good talent goes to waste at the behest of a global music company.
I give a band more listening time if they don't have a whiny-voiced singer, that just gets on my nerves after a while

But, I especially love Celtic Fiddling and Classical music (or Baroque or Romantic, depending on the time period the composer comes from....I never can get it straight, though). Recently, I've been listening to a lot of Vivaldi (not as big a fan of Beethoven, sorry), 'cause I'm hoping to find a solo arrangement of one of songs for an orchestra audition next school quarter. |

Yay! Vivaldi!
I love Celtic music. I play bodhran myself (drum, in case anyone's confused), and I sing. Ever heard Cynthia McLeod? Amazing PEI fiddler.

my personal favorite musical combination is violin + piano. still, there are some amazing things that people can do by combining random instruments like a heavy metal guitar and an orchestra.
well... technically, I don't play any instruments, I don't read notes, but I DO enjoy trying to play instruments, this I do by ear. I've managed to play a few things on some random instruments, harmonica, piano, guitar, but as of yet.... I guess I'm technically not a musician. |

The name rings a bell, but I can't say I've heard any of her music. -starts trying to look her up- I'd honestly love to learn some drumming myself, but nobody in my area teaches that kind of stuff. My mom wants to eventually learn the harp. And we've tried *unsuccessfully* to get my brother into bagpipes....-sigh- oh well! Just another instrument for me to take up sometime in the future! lol...^_^ |

I just saw the movie the 300 for the second time a few days ago, I particularly liked the music in that movie, it was orchestrated with a touch of heavy metal guitar. I went out and got the soundtrack, but I still prefer to listen to it in the movie.
Really good music like that conjures up battle scenes and pictures in my head, if I end up drawing the pictures, I sometimes get inspired by how they look, and try to think up a backstory, the backstory snowballs into a full on story, and "wouldn't it be cool if that was a movie" comes to mind, of course you cant have a good movie moment without good music.... |

| Soundtracks are amazing, aren't they? It's the perfect music to listen to for inspiration, as it was literally written to tell a story. It makes perfect sense that it would inspire scenes in your mind. I think my copy of "The Dark Crystal" has an option where you can turn off the dialogue and just watch the movie with the music, and it doesn't feel any different without the dialogue! "Star Wars" is another one of those movies where you can do that and it doesn't lose any of it's appeal. Yep. You just have to love soundtracks. |

I like mostly anything but my fave is Metal, all types of metal.
Love movie soundtracks too, particularly the Narnia and Pirates of the Caribbean ones and I found Lord of the Rings to be fantastic revision music. |

I love love love music! I have no clue what I'd do with out it.
I listen to christian metal/hardcore mostly, like Norma Jean, Extol, As I Lay Dying, etc. (Though some don't call that music, lol).
I dunno, I just love it a lot, it makes me happy.
My best drawings were done while listening to music and were also drawings of the bands I was listening to ....mainly Linkin Park (Not a huge fan of their music anymore, but thats not my point).
Anyways, music is a huge part of my life, I even have a musical family - I am not though..listening is as far as I go.

It really does enhance the experience of drawing if you listen to music while you do them. I always listen to music while I'm drawing (or doing much of anything, at that). What's really fun is to turn on a random song, and then try to illustrate the song. Some great pictures have come from that, and it's a great exercise to free up stagnant creativity. |

Hey, that sounds like a great idea, I will have to try that!
I always have trouble in the area of creativity, I just do better when asked to look at something and just draw it as it is. When it comes to drawing something from my own head....ack..XD
