I've used a few of these things before, but never really got used to them. This would be one of my best so far. Ratings or comments, bring them in.

I like it. You could maybe add slightly stronger highlights to the eyes to make them stand out more but apart from that it's great.

i like the way you slowly built up the colour for the background but i agree that you could add some highlights on the whale's back to show where the sunlight is coming from.
