Some pictures seem blank, but are animatied and wiped out again. This is an example: http://www.theonemillionmasterpiece.com/en/profile-527164
These are quite useless, and will basically be nothing in the completed picture, shall we remove them, or make a separate project for the animatedish ones?

There are plenty of websites for people to submit / create animations. You are right, in the final creation people wont be able to see them animated, it's fun for now, but in a year what will be the point ? If people have something to say, why hide it or wipe it out ?

Thats exactly what I thought. These people just find this, and use the playback tool on thier pictures.
Why dont they just get flash and submit things to dA? Or why dont they try something artistic with thier picture?

Off the macromedia website, but you have to pay for the full version unless you get it illegally which I hope nobody does, unless they absolutely have to. I'm quite good at it =D (flash, not getting things illegally)

It's much better than a black square that no one has touched...and after all there's still afew days left for them to play about and change their square. You can't assume that that will be the finished image in nine months time!

I think it's fine to do an animation but they shouldn't erase everything after it's done. Just so it'll look good on the final piece.

Well didn't Robert Smithson's jetty disappear after a certain amount of time? Art can be temporary. It would be nice, though, for them to leave some sort of indication of what the animation contained.

*edit - okay scratch that - I've been told the spiral jetty is still there. But I've seen other examples of temporary earthworks, I just can't remember them. So much for all I learned in AP Art History!

I'd really like to see those pieces that are still animations at the close of this project, be used in a video. I know animation was not initially the point of the OMM, but theres no reason why those clever enuff to create them, shouldnt be included too ... theyve simply extended the idea a tad. I dont know however, how these pieces would be shown on the printed work ... perhaps the middle frame or something.

it is, although you've probably googled it already. Avant-garde art in Utah, what a concept!

*Edit* I see you're from Utah, Sean. Sorry bout that. But sadly, you must admit that when people think of Utah they don't automatically think of the visual arts.

I do concur, there should be something in that square besides white.... or black.

I think they should be allowed if there's something at the end.

I think it should be allowed. After all; why can't a white square be art? The artist Newman made paintings wich were almost totaly red.

I suppose it doesn't really even matter what the process is as long as there is a conscious image at the end(even if it's intentionally white or black or maroon etc). If they want their final image to be in the piece, then I don't think we really have a right to stop their being a part of this project. However, If the image is white, I don't think we can't call it art. If you've ever been to a modern art museum, you'll see many paintings that are just a solid color. If they meant it to be white or all black, then that would probably be considered art to many, including myself.

Animations are more fun than just a static piece of art. Who knows... the final mural might be presented as an animated artwork. It would be nice if the final piece is displayed on a gigantic screen. It starts off as a blank piece of canvas and then the drawings are animated at the same time. This allows the viewers to see the mural evolve into being. The process of creation of each part has already been recorded... It would be a shame to put it to waste. Peace!!! smiley

Hello Richard. My profile currently has animation.

I thought this website is all about freedom of expression using the provided tools (at least About page says something about that!). If you think this is not an art, well, it is your opinion, but you have obviously missed the point of what that page was saying.
Of course I do understand that my animation will not play when it will be printed, on paper. I actually care about that. Thank God, there is almost 3 quarters to go. I don't want to sit around with the same image the whole time. I am changing it, I am having fun.
Why don't I get Flash? Wait, let me check... adobe.com.. Flash... $699. Becoming Flash artist tomorrow! Right. That's more than what I get in 3 months. I need to eat too.

''

PS. Sorry for the rant! smiley

I don't think its necessarily a problem - I would suggest that people 'spruce up' the end of their animation a bit if they are going to do it so it looks good in print, but this is art as creativity, so if people use all options available, I dotn see whats wrong with it.
