hey Joanne smiley that's helpful, but I think you mixed up 14 and 15, and I think that might lead to some confusion when the votes are being tallied in the end and people meant different pictures with the same number smiley

Hi Joanne, couple of things firstly great news that you are joining the Big Collab it should be fun, had a look at your link which is a great idea and really useful that you can see all the pictures at once. It just needs one change at the moment as I think you have reversed the numbering on images 14 and 15, I think image 14 should be the waterfall. Only spotted it as you mentioned the water in your first choice and I couldn't remember many pics having water in them. Which I think makes your choices the same as mine and in the same order, great taste you've got there smiley Cheers Mark Edit: Hey Dan you beat by a minute there with your post smiley

I'll change the one on my first post too before anyone else sees it and gets confused!

That's a good idea; for those that waht to go that way I think it'd work great. I'm personally not about the layering, for me it's all about the finished image. I think that, in the end even though we're doing a collaborative effort, our squares should still represent our own unique styles. I think that the grid (much like the Pirate Code, smiley ) should be more of a guideline than a set rule- this is the basic idea. As long as it doesn't take from the image as a whole, a person should be free to do what they wish. If, say, the main image is a picture of a tree but someone gets a sky piece, they should be free to add whatever they want into it- or even make the sky green, or purple or something, if they want. As long as the basic structure of the main image is there it should be an open project.

i agree

If we can incorporate so many different styles and methods and still come out with a collaborative piece then I say yeah. smiley But I think it does require some communication and idea-exchange with your neighbors. I really like the comment system on the images; I think we can use that to our advantage here smiley

Hey Joanne! Nice to see you here already. Thanks for the image grid smiley I added you to the list to be moved smiley So hopefully you'll be in the neighborhood soon.

Guys - do you think while we're expanding we should make the grid smaller on the photos so that we can add more people as they come? Or let the edges and the newcomers simply use their imagination to extend beyond the reference canvas?

Anyhow this is a fun discussion, and keep the votes rolling in smiley ideas too.

Hugs,
Gracie

haha, I think it would actually be quite interesting to see them extend the picture with their own imagination. for that it is quite necessary though that the squares which they border to are more or less done already, I think. to give them some sort of reference at least.

but if there are enough new participants to fill a whole new row of squares then the grid could certainly be downsized, too.

I have to go back to work now... I'll try to check the thread tonight.

Jeanne... I sent you an email earlier this mornin smiley

Cheers,
Gracie

There are all so beautiful, it is truly difficult to choose. I like the idea of layering and embedding. Gracie - you did a great job finding lovely photos. Can't wait to see which one we do. Look forward to it!! Cheers! smiley
(PS- I had a problem finding the discussion, as the link on your profile did not work for me, Gacie)

Hey guys - Beverly; not sure why the link isn't working for you... I double checked it again this morning and it still works for me? smiley Anyhow I got a free moment this morning to grid up your photos, Jeanne. There were 2 files that were corrupted and wouldn't open; but the rest I've tried to arrange in a grid the best I could. Some of the photos were not large enough so I had to upscale; this may mean less quality when you zoom in to get your actual square size... and some of the photos are blurry. But, I've done my best to put them in a square format - here are the links:

The front page is also changed now to include the new set of thumbnails, as well as Beverly's votes.

Oh, also, before I forget - if anyone would like to take a look at the full resolution of the source photo for image 10 it's here - that's the one with the most votes so far.

The original image wasn't a square; I just arranged it in the grid to provide the most compositional and individual square interest.

anyhow here's the original source image to take a look at:

I think Jeanne's 033 is quite nice, colours might have to be beefed up a tad and some edges might need some more definition to avoid just getting a noise of colour in the foliage, but otherwise I could quite see us doing that, too, it has a nice composition.

it kiiiinda reminds me on a certain image that I once painted smiley

Hey guys - Let's set the last voting at the middle of next week, November 28th (a Wednesday). This gives everyone a chance to get in their last votes. For those who aren't responding much to the forum/square changing, feel free to give me your current email so i can keep you updated on the newest big changes for the collab smiley I can send out reminders on the mailing list so you don't miss the important stuff.

Hey Jeanne - thanks for contributing your photos. The second email you sent had the same ones as the first, hehe. They're already up and ready to vote on smiley

Hey Dan - it's the same location actually, same bridge too. If you look at one of the others (#36) you'll see smiley Just a different time of year/day I think. Haha.

Hey Jeanne, where was photo #36 taken? Dan and I painted a speedpaint practice using a photo ref from the same location (diff photographer).

Cheers,
Gracie

haha, yeah, now I see it. that's quite awesome smiley I thought it looked quite similar, but I never thought about it being the very same location smiley but yep, on 036 it becomes clear, hehe.
