Just a thought, but might it be worthwhile directly contacting schools and see if they wish to participate in the project? Not only do they provide large numbers of members, but also secondary schools, particularly in the lower years don't tend to have a particularly rigid art curriculum in my experience, so it would be a good way for them to introduce children to digital art that they could od with relative ease.

I'm not precisely sure how you would best go about doing this, but I'm going to mention it to one of my former art teachers, I've also sent an invitation to my course leader at Uni - it might be worth doing something like that at all levels of education.

But in general I think it would benefit everyone all round to have some initiative to promote it in schools.

There were plans for a school program in the pipeline some point last year. I think I read it somewhere on Paul Fishers blog. I sent Paul a message and he said it was still in planning. I have not heard anything since, however.

A school program would be a great way to not only benefit the OMM but provide a worthwile project for child groups, too. There is probably lots more to it than just this, though.

I'll send Paul another message and point him in the direction of this thread.

I'm promoting OMM in my school, allbeit slowly. I think it is a good idea, but I'm not sure if schools would be happy promoting a website with a forum etc. or one which asks for money, even for charity. As it is not "educational" I don't think our school will partcipate on anything more than a student level. Shame.

True, I must admit my old school was very image concious so took every oppertunity to do anything that made them look good (such as charity) which while its beneficial to everyone was largely done for selfish motives when done at a school wide level - I took it for granted that all schools would have a similar kind of stance I think. I also hadn't considered the forum aspect of the problem though...

Just thought I would bump this back to the top to ask if there was any further news about promotion of the OMM in schools?

the ONLY problem i see with this is there will likely be a much lower member to donation ration with the school kid group.
