Good grief!
I took a virtual "stroll" around smileyMM like I often do, and I went around checking out webpages of artists, and watching detailed replays.....
Then I went back and looked at my picture....smiley
ugh, I feel so inferior, you guys win. I think I'm going to go sit in the corner and pout for a few hours....

On a seperate note, I've noticed that I use the word "heh" in almost every one of my comments, notes, threads, whatevers... I wonder if why...
heh, oh well, prolly just crazy.

ANYWAYS, post your experiences and views of other artists/artwork that vary in skill level from your own. Do you feel overwhellmed? inspired? slightly hungry? I'm kinda curious to know if I happen to be the only person who is being overrun by jealousy, and how other people deal with it.smiley

I really love many pieces on this website and some of them even make me wonder. I enjoy them and feel good that someone is able of doing such great artwork. Sometimes I do wish I could paint like someone else, but then I realize that to be able to do such a great work I need to practice a lot and dedicate myself to art totally, which I cannot afford right now. That's because I have some other things in my life going on and there is really no reason to complain.
Why being jealous when you can probably do something else better than them? smiley If I had more time to dedicate to artwork, I know I would have been much better than I am now. It's just about what we choose to do with our life, I guess... No one can be good at everything! smiley
It is pointless to compete with others here. Just do what you enjoy and develop your skills. Enjoy and appreciate your own work also. And you don't have much reasons to complain Isaac, you are much better than most of us. smiley

the reason this is happening is probably because those really good squares are done by skilled people. but then you must look back and see the even larger number of people woho don't put in a high amount of effort to make thier picture "top notch". but that dosn't mean that they arn't good pictures..smiley

smileyah, I see what you both are saying. I guess I can be proud in the uniqueness of my picture, and the feeling I put behind it, even if I do see other pictures that are better drawn in my own opinion.

I think this is a good point for everyone else to go by as well. Everyone has the ability to be unique in different ways, and people should focus on their personal uniqueness. Why did you paint it, and what does it mean to you? In my opinion, feeling and the reasons behind your picture can trump the actual "quality" of the art.

I leave everyone with yet another question. The question that I feel validates the real quality of art.

What purpose does you picture serve for you? What are you expressing?

Well, a lot of the really skilled pics I see here really inspire me and make me want to try out the artist's certain style, or stretch my own skills. I must admit that I do get jealous of quite a few artists here tho;D I just love looking at all of them even if they make me jealous smiley It's really easy to get overwhelmed by amazingly perfected pictures tho ;P

Seeing all the pics by artists new to art or digital art is really a lot of fun too smiley I love to see everyone's potential and how much beauty they can create even when they are so new to drawing with a mouse c: It reminds me back when I first discovered art a few years ago and could hardly find the pointy end of the pencil smiley After a lot of practice.... now I can reliably find the pointy end of the pencil and have discovered a new love ;D

This is exactly how I felt when I first came on. Then I realised that I didn't really care, it was just fun so use the tools and browse... however I am still extremely happy whenever anybody votes for me.

My picture is not expressing anything. I just wanted to draw something sweet. I knew that if I tried anything too adventurous it would look wholy inadequate, so voila. Teddy.

Isaac, I'm right there with you.

smiley
Everytime I go around looking at squares I think to my self "I wonder what it takes to actually draw like they do...and what is for dinner?!"

And then I go back to my wishy washy anime drawing.

Put it this way: I am the person responsible for bringing http://www.millionmasterpiece.com/profile-439171 person onto this site. He's on my coruse at uni, and we frequently have 'art offs' when we can't be bothered to do our actual work we get given a subject and haveto do an image based on that theme. His is better every time, but it gives me something to aim for and reason to improve, I much prefer it to a-level where there was no one much above my skill level so I didn't have so much drive.

Seeing people better than me helps me strive more.

At my school there is always someone better. Its strange. Last year i got highest in the art exam (not a real exam, they just give you a mark for your pieces) - but that was probably because we have this mental teacher who seemed to think I was amazing because I put random flowers on this piece of cloth I was painting because I was bored. I hope she never sees this post... - and this year I do badly and suddenly I realise that I can't actually paint, only draw if it is a 'good' day.
