Thats exactly what I thought. These people just find this, and use the playback tool on thier pictures.
Why dont they just get flash and submit things to dA? Or why dont they try something artistic with thier picture?

well i must ask.. how is an animation on OMM useless? does it not express the same thing that still art does? is it a rule that people shouldnt make animations? and does a blank canvas hold less value than one painted on?

Billy Apple sold a blank canvas years ago for over $10,000. and as many know and have mentioned a blank or solid coloured canvas can be seen hangin in art galleries these days.. for all i know, contemporary art has alot of rule breaking.. and you can say that animation on a non animated project breaks rules.

my piece is both still art and an animation, i have spent ages on it and i would like to say that it serves its purpose.. even though people may not be able to view it later on (and i am way aware of that, that is y i also plan to do a final product) i strongly feel it is still an artistic process that i set out to explore using this particular programe. i dont use flash for the same reason as it is expensive to buy and plus i do not use that particular art form since i am a fine art student. This programme allows the making of animations to be a much more difficult process and i like that.

but anyways, i feel that if deletion of animated works do happen, it will be unfair for those who created it and also a pity that people would not enjoy such creativity.. and the purpose or value of this site will have a flaw due to a capping or a lack of freedom to express.

I'd really like to see those pieces that are still animations at the close of this project, be used in a video. I know animation was not initially the point of the OMM, but theres no reason why those clever enuff to create them, shouldnt be included too ... theyve simply extended the idea a tad. I dont know however, how these pieces would be shown on the printed work ... perhaps the middle frame or something.

mmm I think theres some idea in that. How bout in the end, the whole picture is moving? like all the squares would be played with the animation and it would just loop. I know that's probably really hard to do, and probably needs a crazy super computer, but that is a nice idea. who knows, maybe in one instance of the looping of playbacks, the picture WILL form into something.

If OMM reaches it's goal - crazy super computer for final animation would be the right guess. 1 Million flash animations? Riiiiiight!

Mine is an animation, but it still ends with a picture, so that should be alright, right?

If the image is projected, we could see the animations too - whatever they finish on
eg http://www.nonstarvingartists.com/News/moma-and-creative-time-present-doug-aitken-sleepwalkers
I think it is up to each artist what they want to have as the start image, end image and what's in-between, even if that's (almost) all black!
but for now I think it's helpful to signal in some way when there's something on a square as opposed to it being unowned - maybe with just a little space monkey...smiley

i think we had a comment like that but about a giant computer.. lol.. i reckon a projection is more possible than a giant computer.. but due to the cost of coming up with such equipments, the amount of money raised wouldnt be enough to cover for its presentation if that was the selected format.. than again i dont how many options there can be in one suggestion..
